• Assistant surgeon services billed with modifier 80
• Minimum assistant surgeon services with modifier 81
• Assistant surgeon services when assistant resident surgeon not available with modifier 82.

As a reminder, when a Physician Assistant (PA) acts as an assistant at surgery, the services should be identified with a modifier AS.

Physician Assistants must have their own Medicare Part B Provider Identification Number (PIN). Claims submitted without the AS modifier along with 80, 81 or 82 modifier will be denied.
