2008 Cost Reimbursement for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist/Anesthesiologist Assistant Services
Rural hospitals may qualify for reasonable cost payments for certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) or anesthesiologist assistant services if certain criteria are met. Generally, the hospital must have provided 800 or fewer surgical procedures requiring anesthesia in the immediate preceding year.
More information is found in the Medicare regulations at 42CFR §412.113c. Providers that qualify and that elect reasonable cost reimbursement for calendar year 2008 must send a written request to the National Government Services Audit and Reimbursement office servicing their hospital before January 1, 2008. Supporting documentation must be included with the written request.
