Effective Date September 1, 2007

The National Government Services Medical Policy Unit has finalized
the draft local coverage determination (LCD) and associated supplemental
instructions article (SIA) for B-type Natriuretic Peptide ( BNP)
Testing. This policy specifies when BNP measurements may be considered
reasonable and necessary when used in combination with other
medical data and provides utilization guidelines which apply
to BNP testing in the nonfacility setting.
This draft policy was posted for comment by the Part B carrier
medical policy unit and applies to Indiana (00630) and Kentucky
(00660) providers only. The LCD will be in the required “Notice
Period” from July 15, 2007 through August 31, 2007 and
will become effective on September 1, 2007. Providers are encouraged
to read the LCD (policy) as well as the SIA (coding and billing
instructions). The LCD and SIA may be accessed on the Medical
Policy/Current LCDs page of the National Government Services
carrier Web site at www.NGSMedicare.com or
