Content Section Empire Medicare Services, the Medicare Part B carrier for the sixteen counties in Downstate New York (except Queens), will be implementing a new claims processing system on May 2, 2005. All Medicare carriers across the nation will be operating on a single shared claims system for greater claims processing efficiency. Empire has been working with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and our partners to insure that we complete this transition with minimal impact to the community.
During the days immediately before the transition, we will not be able to answer questions on individual claims. In fact, our customer service call center will close on April 27 at 12:00 and will not re-open until the new claims system is up and running on May 2. (1-800-MEDICARE will remain open to answer general Medicare questions.) Also, due to this claims system change, some people may notice that they receive their Medicare Summary Notice at a slightly different time of the month, but still on the same 30-day cycle.
