Changes in ESRD
Coding and Billing
On October 4, 2004, Empire Medicare
Services posted a news article titled “Payment for
Outpatient End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)-Related
Services” on its Web site, notifying providers of
changes based upon the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services’ (CMS) CR 3414. Empire Medicare
Services has now posted the revised slide presentation
“ESRD Related Services - Coding Changes” to
further assist providers with coding and billing of these
services. It can be accessed from the “Provider -
Part B” link on Empire’s homepage.
Providers should be aware that these
coding guidelines are effective only through December 31,
2004. Changes in the descriptors for HCPCS codes
G0324-G0327 will result in new instructions effective
January 1, 2005. Please check the Empire Medicare
Services Web site in December for the new 2005
instructions.
