New Contractor Numbers for the State of California -Jurisdiction 1 Part B Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Workload

Provider Types Affected
Physicians, providers, and suppliers billing Medicare carriers in the State of California transitioning to the Jurisdiction 1 Part A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor (A/B MAC) for services provided to Medicare beneficiaries.

Provider Action Needed
This article is based on Change Request (CR) 5905, which changes the contractor numbers for the State of California as this claims processing work transitions to Jurisdiction 1 Part A/B Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Workload.

Background
Change Request (CR) 5905 notifies all interested parties that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) needs to change the contractor numbers in the Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Jurisdiction 1 (J1) state of California when that state is transitioned to J1. This change needs to be made because certain applications require separate contractor numbers for each state. For example, providers using free billing software from the Medicare carrier may want to obtain updated versions of the software from the A/B MAC, once CR5904 is effective in order to have the correct contractor number in that software.

Claims for the state California will be processed by the J1 MAC using the contractor numbers and effective dates listed below.

Note: Wisconsin Physicians Services Ins. Corp. Medicare providers (formerly Mutual of Omaha) will continue to do business with Wisconsin Physicians Services Ins. Corp.
