New ISA Level Edit for X12 837 Version 4010A1 Medicare Part B Claims

Effective March 12, 2004, Empire Medicare Services will implement the following new ISA level edit for Medicare Part B X12 837 version 4010A1 professional claims:

ISA0000IEA Character immediately after ISA segment terminator must = G

The segment terminator for an ISA through IEA interchange is located in position 106 of the Interchange Control Header record. The character immediately following the ISA segment terminator must be the alpha character "G" which signifies the beginning of the "GS" Functional Group Header segment.

Any character other than "G" immediately following the segment terminator will cause the entire ISA through IEA interchange to be rejected. For example, the interchange will reject if any of the following characters is immediately following the ISA segment terminator: an unreadable hex character such as a carriage return or line feed, a space, a low value, a special character, an alpha character not equal to "G".

Note: EMC edits for the Interchange Control Header Record begin with "ISA."
