2005 Allowances
for Anesthesia Services
Section 13516 of the Omnibus Budget
Reconciliation Act of 1993 eliminated the separate
conversion factor for anesthesia services furnished by
medically directed certified registered nurse
anesthetists (CRNAs) and anesthesia assistants (AAs). It
requires that the allowance for the CRNA or AA service be
based on a percentage of the allowance for the service
personally performed by the anesthesiologist. For
services furnished in 2005, this percentage is 50 percent
for both the physician medical direction service and the
medically directed CRNA or AA service.
