This article was updated on November 8, 2007. The new information is in bold text.

All Medicare providers/vendors/clearinghouses/service bureaus that are currently electronic data interchange (EDI) submitters to National Government Services for Medicare Part A and Part B will be assigned a new M2 submitter number. We are currently in the process of distributing the M2 submitter numbers to those submitters handling Medicare Part A submissions. Other submitters that are handling Medicare Part B submissions will not receive their M2 submitter number until after November 13, 2007. If you need to request your new M2 submitter number, please send an e-mail including the required information to IEMGroup@WellPoint.com.

  • Submitter Name
  • Submitter Number
  • Contact Name
  • Contact Phone Number
  • E-mail Address
  • Software Vendor Name, if applicable

Once your request is received, it will be processed as quickly as possible. You will receive an e-mail containing the information needed for your migration of the EDI Gateway.

In addition, to expedite the migration of the EDI Gateway, National Government Services will also be sending letters with the new M2 submitter number to all electronic Medicare submitters. If you have already obtained this information, then it is not necessary to send an e-mail to our group.

All vendors need to understand that the current submitter ID must be replaced with the new M2 submitter number within any billing software.

If any submitter chooses to send a new biller test 837 transaction set, then make sure your ISA15 contains the usage indicator = T. As soon as you are ready, please send your 837 transaction sets as production submissions. All EDI Medicare submitters must have completed the EDI Gateway migration with their new M2 submitter number by December 31, 2007. If this is not accomplished you will not be able to send and/or receive any EDI transaction sets.

After you have sent production 837 transaction sets with your new M2 submitter number, we encourage you to download and review any reports and/or files that may have been delivered to your old submitter ID. By performing this function during your migration, it will ensure that you have obtained all of your electronic information.

If you have any questions related to this process, contact the National Government Services Medicare EDI Help Desk at 877-273-4334.

*Note: The M2 submitter number and migration of the EDI Gateway only applies to the Medicare line of business. This will not affect EDI for the corporate line of business, including Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and Commercial transaction sets.
