Reconciling Daily Medicare Payments with NPI Remits and Legacy Six-Digit Medicare Remits

It has been identified that the FISS system has been producing two remits.

For providers that get electronic payment via EFT:

In certain cases the FISS system has been producing two remits. One remit for the NPI number and one remit for the legacy six-digit Medicare provider number.

In order to balance to your daily bank deposit, the provider must add the two remits together.

Example: If there is an NPI remit for $5,000 and legacy Medicare number remit for $6,000, then there should be ONE bank deposit for $11,000.

For providers that get payment via paper checks:

Each remit produced a separate check. For example if the NPI remit shows $1,000 then there will be a check for $1,000. If the legacy Medicare remit shows $500 then another check was issued for $500.

As usual if you have specific claims questions please contact your Customer Care Representative.
