Appeals Imaging Project Update

As discussed in the Medicare Hospital Provider and Skilled Nursing Facility Outreach & Education Advisory Group Meetings held in March 2007 the Appeals Department will implement the scanning project of all appeal requests and additional documentation, such as medical records, received beginning May 4, 2007.

Here are two reminders so that mail is delivered timely and appropriately:

  • Mark the outside of the envelopes “Attn: Appeals Department”
  • Do not include correspondence for any other department within the same envelope as appeals information

An analysis of mail received in the Appeals Department that had to be routed to another department included the following issues:

  • MSP Issues
  • Entitlement Issues
  • Paid Claims
  • Provider not authorized to perform the service rendered
  • Services received after date of death

To prevent delay in handling these issues we are asking for your help by sending the above listed requests/information to the appropriate area. If you are not sure what the appropriate area is, we recommend that you submit the request/information to the Provider Inquiries Department asking for their assistance.
