FISS/DDE Password Change
Attention All Medicare Part A FISS/DDE Users
Beginning March 30, 2007, National Government Services (NGS) will implement new FISS/DDE password requirements. These requirements will apply to any new FISS/DDE logon and password created after this date and to any current password expiring after this date.
New Password Requirements:
- Password must be a minimum of eight (8) characters in length
- Passwords will expire every 45 days
- Password history will be eight – you cannot reuse any of the last eight passwords
The following message will be displayed on the FISS/DDE Logon screen:
ACF00117 NEW PASSWORD CONTAINS A RESERVED WORD PREFIX
The user will then have to create another password and enter it into the system.
Here are some additional guidelines for creating new FISS/DDE passwords:
- Passwords should not be easily guessable or trivial; do not use other commonly used dictionary words, common business terms, default passwords, local sports teams, months, year, hobbies, or your phone number.
- Password must be a minimum of eight (8) characters in length
- Passwords will expire every 45 days
- Password history will be (8) – you cannot reuse any of the last 8 passwords
- Your FISS/DDE Logon ID will be locked after three invalid log in attempts
- You must keep your current password for seven days before you can change the password to another one
- The following special characters are allowed:

No password should be shared with any other individual, clearinghouse, or billing agent, and it is limited to the person assigned the user ID.
