Taxonomy Codes to Be Updated Effective April 1, 2007, the Healthcare Provider Taxonomy Code (HPTC) will be
updated. The HPTC set is an external non-medical data code set designed for use
in classifying health care providers according to provider type or practitioner
specialty in an electronic environment, specifically within the American
National Standards Institute Accredited Standards Committee health care claim
transaction. The HPTCs are scheduled for update twice per year in April and
October. The newest version of HPTC is available from the Washington Publishing
Company at http://www.wpc-edi.com/codes/taxonomy. Effective January 1, 2007, institutional Medicare providers who submit claims for their primary facility and its subparts (such as psychiatric unit, rehabilitation unit, etc.) must report a valid taxonomy code on all claims submitted to their FI. MLN Matters Number: MM5243 Revised, for Related Change Request (CR) #:5243 supplied an attachment to crosswalk the OSCAR (Online Survey Certification and Reporting System) number to the appropriate taxonomy code for your type of facility. Please refer to that MLN for additional information. These codes can be found in the Taxonomy listing as well as the attachment listing. This MLN can be found at: http://www.empiremedicare.com/mir_combined/2007-1ab/rep.htm. If an HPTC is reported to Medicare, it must be a valid code. For assistance changing the HPTC in your system, please contact your vendor. © All current procedural terminology (CPT) codes and descriptors copyrighted by the American Medical Association. |
