Dear Ambulance Supplier:

This letter is to inform you that Empire Medicare Services (EMS) has reviewed the Advanced Life Support (ALS) inter-facility transfer guidelines, reimbursement methodology, and processes unique to The State of New Jersey (NJ) due to the adoption of N.J.A.C. 8:41.

The NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Emergency Medical Services mailed a letter to all NJ licensed Basic Life Support providers, dated July 1, 2004. This letter described, in part, the adoption of N.J.A.C. 8:41 which provides a new licensure category for Specialty Care Transport (SCT). Ambulance suppliers in NJ are required to obtain the appropriate level of licensure for SCT services performed after August 1, 2004.

Due to the changes adopted with N.J.A.C. 8:41, Empire Medicare Services will no longer require copies of contracts between ambulance suppliers and hospitals in order to adjudicate ALS inter-facility claims. However, we do request that existing ambulance suppliers fax NJ issued SCT licenses to Provider Enrollment at (717) 565-3430. Please address the cover sheet to the attention of Tamara Cooksey. This documentation is required to ensure correct claim processing regardless of the issuance date of the license.

If you have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Provider Reimbursement at the address below.

Sincerely,

R. Heckard
